If you want to test your arm strength, be ready to take part in an arm-wrestling championship.
Starting in Sirhind from April 18, Ambuja Cement Big Panjaa League is a collective effort of Ambuja Cement and 92.7 Big FM to promote regional sports in the state.
Auditions are being conducted across 17 towns in and around Bathinda. These are Talwandi Sabo, Rampura Phul, Bhagta, Barnala, Tapa, Mansa, Dhuri, Ahmedgarh, Malerkotla, Sunam, Bhawanigarh, Sangrur, Nabha, Samana, Patran, Patiala and Sirhind.
By the end of the two-month-long initiative, the league will witness the crowning of the Panja Champion of Punjab, who will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 51,000.
The grand finale, including entertaining performances, will be telecast as a special feature on the network's channel in the region, Spark Punjabi.
The auditions kicked off in Bathinda with Sahil Dhingra, manager marketing, 92.7 Big FM; Rajesh Jha, zonal head, Ambuja Cements, south Punjab; Amarjeet Singh Alagh, branch head, Ambuja Cements, Bathinda; and Lakhbir Singh, general secretary, Arm Wrestling Foundation.
Jha said, "We are looking forward to creating and sustaining the sports entertainment genre. The motive is to promote the game among youth who are taking to drugs. Around 50 youths will be registered and then the winners will be chosen."
