Batala SSP Bikrampal Singh Bhatti said Karnail Kaur, a resident of Tandori Khurd village under Sangrur police district lodged a complaint with Shri Hargobindpur DSP Parminder Singh that her son-in-law Harjinder Singh had a land dispute with his aunt Manjeet Kaur who had lodged a complaint against her daughter and him.

She alleged that on the basis of the complaint, ASI Balbir Singh threatened them with registering a case against them.

Sarabjeet narrated the entire episode to her and she called the ASI who demanded Rs 50,000 but the deal was settled at Rs 35,000. Karnail Kaur approached the DSP who marked the currency notes and later gave them to Karnail who later went to the Udanwal police. When Kaur handed over the money to the ASI, the DSP raided police post and arrested the ASI.
