ASI murder case: Pinda opened fire on police team before arrest

Divulging details of the arrest of gangster Palwinder Singh, alias, Pinda, who was one of the accused in the alleged killing of an assistant sun-inspector (ASI) at Haveli Dhaba in Jalandhar in April 2013, the Patiala police said his arrest came when Pinda fired at a police team on duty on Saturday night.

Divulging details of the arrest of gangster Palwinder Singh, alias, Pinda, who was one of the accused in the alleged killing of an assistant sun-inspector (ASI) at Haveli Dhaba in Jalandhar in April 2013, the Patiala police said his arrest came when Pinda fired at a police team on duty on Saturday night.

However, Pinda was arrested after a little effort by police with his girlfriend Satnam Kaur of Fatehgarh Sahib district, when they were travelling in a Maruti Swift car in Patiala.
Police claimed that they had also seized the US made a 9mm pistol, one kilogram intoxicant powder and 58 grams of heroin from them.

Apart from ASI murder case, the accused was wanted in six other criminal cases, including contract killing.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Hardial Singh Mann said following a tiff-off a team led by inspector Jatinderpal Singh, SHO at the Civil Lines police station, laid a special nakka at the Dhamo Majra and signalled the Swift Car, which was driven by a Sikh boy and a woman was sitting beside him, to stop for a checking.

On preliminary interrogation it came to light that after murdering the ASI, the accused had taken shelter in SAS Nagar and Patiala to evade his arrest, said Mann.

"He used to sell heroin and intoxicant powder at various places to raise money for his survival,"said the SSP, adding that police was keeping a close tab on Rajinder Singh Mintu, another accused in the case, who was still absconding.
