Charges were framed against Bains and eight others in the case on June 7 this year.

As per the prosecution, Bains, who was then a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and around 40 of his supporters had attacked the then local tehsildar Major Gurjinder Singh Benipal (retired) at his office on June 19, 2009.

The statement of Benipal, complainant in the case, was recorded in the court on Thursday. The case was then adjourned to August 4 for next hearing.

Benipal, who is now a district revenue officer, alleged that besides assaulting him with knives, iron rods and hockeys, the accused had also snatched his licensed revolver before fleeing.

He added that he was attacked for exposing the fake stamp paper scam under the SAD-BJP regime.

The court had dismissed the accused’s application, seeking dismissal of the case registered against them, and had ordered framing of the charges in the previous hearing.
