Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday said the Punjab government would find an amicable solution to the Shahpur Kandi dam dispute with Jammu and Kashmir.
While talking to reporters here, the chief minister said that the Punjab governemnt was open to settling the matter amicably.
He was here to hold sangat darshan programmes in villages of Talwandi Sabo.
“The Jammu and Kashmir government is busy following the flood disaster and we don’t want to disturb them at this juncture. However, the contentious matter will soon be resolved,” Badal said.
When asked if he would again demand from the Centre the Rs 20,000 per acre for the damaged crop he had asked for during the 2013 floods in Muktsar area from the previous UPA government, Badal said he had no clue when he had made the demand.
He said the policies framed by the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre had tied the hands of the state government following which they were forced to award meagre compensation for natural disasters, but now with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the helm of affairs, the Punjab government expected a major hike in the compensation.
Badal will undertake a tour of the rain-affected waterlogged areas of Mansa, Fazilka and Muktsar districts from September 13 to 15.

{{/usCountry}}On a query on the Congress demand for a white paper on the financial affairs of the state, the chief minister said that before raising any such demand, the Congress party should introspect to ascertain the reasons which forced its leaders to lick the dust even in their own home constituencies.
