Bains enters into spat with district officials at meeting

State legislator Simarjit Singh Bains got involved in a verbal spat with the officials during the district vigilance and monitoring committee meeting on Monday.Several leaders, including local MP Ravneet Singh Bittu who is also the chairman of the committee, were present at the meeting held at the Bachat Bhawan of the Mini-Secretariat.

State legislator Simarjit Singh Bains got involved in a verbal spat with the officials during the district vigilance and monitoring committee meeting on Monday.Several leaders, including local MP Ravneet Singh Bittu who is also the chairman of the committee, were present at the meeting held at the Bachat Bhawan of the Mini-Secretariat.

Soon after proceedings of the meeting were initiated, Bains got up from his chair and asked the district administrative officials to discuss local issues, although the meeting was held to discuss Central funding for the district. Bains asked the officials to provide data on the pension scheme of the state government. He told them that verification of the pensions was being delayed, to which additional deputy commissioner Supreet Gulati said the matter would be resolved soon.

Bains also argued with the officials over the issue of mining in different areas of the district. He also raised the issue of touts charging residents for getting their Aadhaar cards issued. Gulati said he would hold an inquiry into the matter.
