Frustrated by the administration’s apathy towards their repeated requests to repair the dilapidated roads, town residents have taken the job to themselves.
Residents can be seen filling potholes on various roads with waste building material.
Pathankot has already earned a bad name among the rest of the districts of Punjab for the broken roads, heaps of garbage and poor amenities, while many termed the town a man-made hell.
We have requested the administration many a times to repair the roads, but in vain, claimed Umesh Kumar, a resident of Patel Nagar.
We clear a thick layer of dust from our establishments daily, but what about our lungs, he questioned.
“Our relatives mock us on the poor condition of the town,” said BD Chugh, president, Senior Citizen Welfare Association.
“They would ask to me if the town’s condition had improved that left me speechless,” he added.
“The authorities claimed to have some funds, but I don’t hope a change as funds might have come and used many a times,” he concluded.
Pathankot deputy commissioner Sukhvinder Singh, however, claimed that he had asked joint commissioner to look into the matter.
