The high court bench of justice SS Saron and Gurmit Ram has issued notice to the Punjab government and Punjab Education Development Board (PEDB) for July 7, seeking their response on this petition by Jagsir Singh and Harnam Ram, members of the management committee of Government Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Pathrala, in Bathinda district.

The petitioners had argued that that the Pathrala panchayat had given away its land for this school under public-private partnership scheme in 2010. However, the private partner exited the venture in 2012 without starting work and now the school was being run from a village dharamshala (inn), where the children of nursery and Classes 7 and 8 have taken three rooms, while the rest sit under tin sheds.
