The Punjab Police said on Wednesday that a case had been registered against cops for firing at protesters which led to the death of two persons at Behbal Kalan village in Faridkot district last week

HT had reported on Wednesday that no case had been registered in the death of two youth in police firing.

The Punjab Police issued a release saying that a case under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention of a group to commit a crime) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the police party led by the then Moga senior superintendent of police (SSP) Charanjit Singh at the the Bajja Khana police station on Wednesday evening.

The investigation of the case would also be conducted under the supervision of additional director general of police (ADGP) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, who also heading the special investigation team (SIT) probing the sacrilege incident and police clashes with the protestors at Behbal Kalan village.
