Addressing a public meeting at Dhandran village in Gill assembly segment after laying the foundation stone of a road to be constructed under the Prime Minister's Gramin Sadak Yojana at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, Tewari said organising sports tournaments was good, but exhausting all resources and energies on a single event was unusual.

He claimed that the entire government had come to a standstill during the last two weeks as everyone -- right from the chief minister to deputy commissioners and SHOs -- was busy holding kabaddi matches. "This only betrays the government's lack of concern for public welfare," he observed, while referring to other pressing problems being faced by people which the government had allegedly failed to address.

The union minister alleged that people across the state were disillusioned with the state government and the SAD-BJP leadership was aware of it, hHence it was trying to organise such events to divert people's attention. "However, they can no longer befool people," he asserted, while appealing people to teach the Akali-BJP alliance a lesson in the coming parliamentary elections.
