Addressing the protesters, BJP state president Satpal Singh Satti said: “We demand Virbhadra's resignation following corruption charges against him.”

The issue was also raised at the national-level by leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley. “Jaitley raised the issue in Delhi and submitted a complaint in this connection to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” he added.

Meanwhile, the BJP also submitted a memorandum to governor Urmila Singh through the Shimla deputy commissioner, demanding the chief minister's resignation.

Satti said there was no hope of action against Virbhadra from the “corrupt” United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, and thus, the BJP was forced to demand his removal from the governor. “Neither the UPA will remove Virbhadra nor he will resign on moral grounds,” he added.

“We demand a probe into the chargesheet by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a free and fair inquiry,” said Satti.

Former BJP state president and Shimla legislator Suresh Bhardwaj and state vice-president Narender Bragata also addressed the gathering.
