Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) membership drive was in a full swing across the state in general and Hamirpur in particular, Pavan Rana, the organising secretary of the party said here recently.
He said that the state scrutiny committee would meet at Nalagarh in Solan district on January 17 to see the progress. Rana, who was recently here along with the former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, to scrutinise the ongoing membership process in the district, had a long meeting with the mandal presidents and other senior district level leaders of the party.
Talking to Hindustan Times, he said that membership in Hamirpur as per record of the party had crossed the mark of forty-one thousand (41,000) and it was a remarkable and it was only through parchi system (slip system), Rana said.
The record of those, who had got membership through online service, was still awaited, but that too was more than 30,000. Rana said that a massive campaign about the membership drive would be started on January 10 to 12 and leaders of mandal to state level would visit all parts of their areas to enroll more persons as the members of the party.
He said that all those party members and others, who had yet not enrolled them as the members, would be approached to get the membership in time so that the target in the state was achieved in time.

{{/usCountry}}Rana said that through the membership drive would continue till March 31 across the country, while Himachal had decided to complete it by December 31. However, the drive had been enhanced to January 15 and if needed it would further be done as per the national level programme.
The BJP organising secretary added that the response of the people towards the party membership was tremendous and if this trend continued, the party would become the first one in India to cross all the membership targets and become highly democratic.
