At a time when the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is advocating orientation programmes to train legislators in proper conduct, senior party leader and Haryana education minister, Ram Bilas Sharma, has courted controversy by allegedly using a cuss word against the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Sharma was the chief guest at the three-day folk festival of the MD University here on Sunday. During a speech on the literary legacy of the iconic Haryanvi folk artiste, Lakhmi Chand, Sharma reportedly used a cuss word against Nehru, who is among the tallest leaders the Congress ever had.
Congress leader and former MLA, BB Batra, termed Sharma’s remarks as “unfortunate” and an “insult to country”.
However, under fire for his remarks, the education minister reportedly clarified that he did not insult the late Nehru, but only narrated a story by someone else that contained a swear word.
