Despite Sangrur having given some big politicians, including former chief ministers Surjeet Singh Barnala and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, several big issues remained unsolved for long time. Congress and SAD have represented the seat for six times each. However, they hardly have achievements to woo the voters of Sangrur, besides criticizing each other for the miserable condition of farmers and labourers.

No-doubt, the failures of the past political stalwarts have proved a boon for the Aam Aadmi Party candidate Bhagwant Mann, who has been criticising the past MPs for keeping Sangrur at a bay.

“For the past sixty years, they come to you during the elections and seek another chance. I don’t know how many chances they need to develop the region,” said AAP leader Yogender Yadav while addressing a rally in support of Bhagwant Mann in Sangrur.

“It is not the failure of the politicians. They come and take your vote. This the failure of the voters. Why don’t you ask them what they have done for you?” he added.

Interestingly, the sitting Congress MP Vijay Inder Singla, who repeatedly tell people about his efforts to bring satellite centre of PGI Chandigarh to Sangrur, blames SAD-BJP led Punjab government for its failure to bring any big-project to Sangrur. “Sukhdev Dhindsa is a Rajay Sabha MP and his son Parminder Dhindsa is Finance Minister of Punjab, but still they could do nothing for Sangrur,” he said, during his door to door campaign in Sangrur grain market.
