Book purchase scam: Fateh Jung for sacking of Maluka

Senior Congress leader Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa on Saturday demanded the sacking and arrest of education minister Sikander Singh Maluka in the wake of Rs 9.28-crore scandal in the purchase of books under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan scheme.

He also sought a CBI probe into the book purchase scandal and strict action against found guilty. On the other hand, Maluka rubbished the charge and maintained that he would get the matter inquired into if anything wrong came to his notice.

Fateh Jung claimed that books purchased under the scheme were overpriced and of substandard quality and contained obscene matter. He pointed out that tenders for the purchase of books were published in newspaper with very low circulation and the firm that finally bagged the contract did not fulfill the requisite conditions.

The Congress leader alleged that the minister set up a purchase committees comprising his favourite officers of the education department, instead of letting SSA authorities do the needful.
