A border dispute has erupted between Uttar Pradesh and Haryana over an agricultural land that the UP Police released from the possession of Haryana farmers.

Three farmers of Haryana were arrested in this connection, sub-divisional magistrate Suresh Mishra has told reporters on Saturday here. “Acting on the complaint of Uttar Pradesh farmers that Haryana cultivators had encroached upon their land, a team of revenue officials want to Mawi village in Shamli district on Friday and reclaimed the land,” he said.

The dispute began when some farmers from Haryana started farming on the Mawi village land and police intervention was required to bring the situation under control. Six western UP districts (Shamli, Saharanpur, Baghpat, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bullandshahar, and Aligarh) are scenes of frequent clashes between the farmers of the two states over boundary dispute.
