The city police and the family of kidnapped child Gurmilap Singh heaved a sigh of relief as persons who had kidnapped him from the Golden Temple complex on late Friday night abandoned the three-and-a-half-years-old child at a city gurdwara on Sunday evening.
Although the boy's hair were found shorn, he was in perfect health with no visible injury.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Kaustabh Sharma said, "A woman running a toy shop near Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib approached the B division police station along with the kid. She told the police that a woman had abandoned the child near her shop."
"Since we were already searching for the boy, we summoned his family who identified him as Gurmilap," the DCP added.
Replying to a question, the DCP said, "After the boy was kidnapped, police increased surveillance and even the pictures of the accused were published in various newspapers. We feel that all this led to pressure on the kidnappers who set the child free."

Since that has been the case now, police were raiding different places to arrest the four suspects," Sharma maintained. The DCP claimed that they were trying to establish the identity of the accused by closely monitoring the CCTV footage from the SGPC control room.

{{/usCountry}}The motive for the kidnapping could be known only after the arrest of the suspects, DCP Sharma said.
Visibly happy over the safe return of Gurmilap, his uncle Jaswinder Singh said, "We are thankful to Amritsar police and the SGPC for their help which put pressure on the kidnappers who released the child."
He admitted that the family was under enormous stress ever since Gurmilap was kidnapped, but was relieved now. "We don't know why the hair of child was cut," he said.
Gurmilap had gone to the Golden Temple along with his family members to pay obeisance and was kidnapped on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday by a woman from 'parikarma' while the kin slept nearby.
