Young Amarjot Singh has overcome the challenge of his physical limitations and taken his first step to realise his dream of film-making. The 18-year-old, who can barely walk or stand straight, has just completed the post-production of a Punjabi film that will be released this week.
Amarjot, who is yet to finish school, caught an infection in his backbone when he was a child, and the disease has left both his legs very weak. But, since childhood, he has been dreaming of owing his own studio and making films on subjects that matter to society.
The upcoming film titled 'Jaisi sangat waisi rangat' is a social-religious drama that runs into two-and-a-half hours. The film has been shot in Ludhiana.
About his experience with the film, Amarjot says, “It took me around seven months to complete the project. I took care of the film's editing. Even dubbing and lip-syncing were carried out by me,” shares Amarjot, who studies at the Vocational Rehabilitation Training Centre at Haibowal.
Earlier, he finished his tenth grade from Evershine Public High School, Ludhiana.
Ask him how he learnt the skills, and Amarjot says he picked them up while watching his father Jitender Pal Singh, a hobby short filmmaker. “I haven't learnt anything formally. But I think it was because I grew up in such an environment that I got familiar with the nuances early,” he says. Amarjot aims to soon enrol in an animation course and wishes to exploit the skills in his films in future.
