Considering the vulnerability of the border from the smuggling point of view, Aditya Mishra, inspector general, BSF, has issued operational guidelines to further strengthen border domination so as to effectively check the menace of smuggling on the Punjab border with Pakistan.

"Consequently, BSF field units are maintaining enhanced vigil on the border," said Mishra. He said that based on BSF intelligence, officers and men of the BSF at Gatti Bisoke, Jalalabad, and cops of the Sadar police station, Jalalabad, put up mobile check posts on routes leading to SS Wala and PS Wala village.

Mishra said the area was close to the international border with Pakistan and was just behind the BSF border outpost. "At about 7.20 pm, a car was spotted coming from Jalalabad. When BSF troops signalled the car to stop, instead of stopping it sped away," he said.

A search of the car led to the recovery of the contraband.
