Builder thrashed by traffic cop in Ludhiana for not wearing helmet

A head constable with the traffic police allegedly thrashed a builder with a rod for not wearing a helmet while driving a two-wheeler on Tuesday at railway over bridge near interstate bus terminal. The builder also alleged that the traffic cop made him fall on the road and beat him in full public view. When his brother intervened, the cop abused him too.

The victim got his medical examination done from the civil hospital and filed a complaint to additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, traffic) Dharuv Dahiya, who ensured he will look into the matter.

The victim, Chintesh Maini, 34, of New Tagore Nagar said that he was going towards Dugri on a two-wheeler and was not wearing helmet. When he reached the bridge, the traffic cop hit him with a rod on his back. As a result he fell down on the road.

“He kept on hitting me on my head and face and then grabbed my collar and dragged me to a road side. When I tried calling my family , the cop snatched the mobile phone from my hand. I borrowed mobile phone from a commuter and informed my family about the incident,” said Maini.

Maini said that he noted the name plate on the uniform of the policeman which read Ashwani Kumar. He added that if he was not wearing helmet, the police should issue a challan to him, but thrashing anyone on the road is unacceptable.

Dharuv Dahiya, ADCP traffic, said he has received a complaint and the police will take appropriate action after investigating the matter.
