While passing orders on a Common Writ Petition (CWP), division bench of chief justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan observed that growth of monkeys is at peal and also the number of stray dogs is increasing day by day. "It is shocking to record that in the last week we lost a life of young women," read the orders.

Bench sought compliance from the union government over orders issued thus far by the court on this issue. Keeping in view the orders passed from time to time and the above circumstances, bench said it had to pass the corrective orders to save the human lives and property of the state.

"We refrain to pass such orders at this stage and deem it proper to direct Assistant Solicitor General of India to file compliance report in terms of orders passed by this court time to time, besides filing a report as to what steps were taken," read the order.

Chief justice Mir observed in his oral orders that the writ petition was in docket for last 11 years as was filed in 2003, while other writ petitions were also pending for last four years. He said speaking orders had been passed from time to time. Despite, neither the state, nor the union government took requisite steps in order to prevent monkey menace and stray dogs.
