Claiming that Captain Amarinder Singh had been appointed Punjab Congress president under pressure, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national spokesman Sanjay Singh said on Thursday here that the local MP could not be a natural chief ministerial candidate of his party.
Sanjay Singh, who is also in charge of Punjab affairs in the party, was here to oversee the first meeting of the party’s women’s wing under the “Mahila Shakti Abhiyan” banner. “You don’t need political rivals to defeat the Congress in Punjab,” he said, “its internal conflict is enough for that.”
“Bewildered” by the public response to the AAP, the Akalis and the Congress had started targeting it with oppressive tactics and baseless statements, respectively, the leader said. “As opposed to personality-based traditional parties; the AAP is issue-based and against dynastic politics that breeds anarchy and corruption. For the first time, common people have become legislators in Delhi and the same is going to happen in Punjab in 2017,” he added.
Party’s state women’s wing president Baljinder Kaur said she was satisfied by the women’s response to the first meeting. “We have started our campaign of women’s empowerment from the holy city of Amritsar, with the blessings of the Almighty. It is battle for freedom from drugs, corruption, land mafia, and the VIP culture,” she said.
