In a statement issued here on Friday, Peter said during Capt Amarinder's tenure as PPCC head, a couple of persons with terrorist backgrounds had entered the party. "Even some against whom sedition cases had been slapped were brought into the party and even given tickets for elections," he added.

"I appreciate Capt Amarinder criticising the Akalis for giving tickets to those with terrorist backgrounds," Peter said. "But has he applied the same yardstick for his party?" Peter was an aspirant for from the Khem Karan constituency and later expelled for anti-party activities.

"Although we are happy that through the political process, a number of persons have been brought into the mainstream, the question is should they have been given tickets to fight elections," he said. "Congress is a party with secular credentials."
