In a statement, Amarinder said he took the decision after interacting with journalists across the state, particularly those working in small towns and for small news organisations. He said after attaining the age of sixty all journalists who have put in 20 years of service would be entitled to family pension. The insurance scheme would provide cover for illness, he said.

He also said the system of registration and accreditation of scribes would also be simplified.
