Car hits SUV in SAS Nagar, traffic remains blocked for 20 minutes

High drama was witnessed near the old Amartex lightpoint in Phase 5 in Mohali late Wednesday night after a collision between a car and an XUV. The car was being driven by Ruhi, 23, daughter of Sanjeev Kumar, a tehsildar posted in Punjab. In the XUV, one Amanjot Singh, 25, of SAS Nagar was behind the wheels.

High drama was witnessed near the old Amartex lightpoint in Phase 5 here late Wednesday night after a collision between a car and an XUV. The car was being driven by Ruhi, 23, daughter of Sanjeev Kumar, a tehsildar posted in Punjab. In the XUV, one Amanjot Singh, 25, of SAS Nagar was behind the wheels.

However, no one was injured in the mishap even as the XUV went off the road and hit an electric pole.

After the accident, the traffic on the road came to a standstill for about 20 minutes.

Ruhi, along with her two friends, was coming from Phase 1 and going towards Sector 80 in her white Volkswagen car when she rammed the vehicle into a white XUV at the old Amartex lightpoint.

Ruhi is a resident of Sector 81 and is pursuing a course in architecture from a private institute.

The XUV dragged the car for about 50 metres, before it hit an electric pole. Amanjot alleged that the car was at a high speed and its headlights were not working.

The woman’s father too reached the spot.

There was a little commotion when the girls reportedly tried to escape the spot in some other car.

The onlookers, however, didn’t let them leave the spot.

The lightpoint is becoming a danger spot. On Tuesday also, a car had hit the pavement. Most of the accidents occur as drivers try to jump the red light, say police.
