Cast, crew of ‘Taur Mitran Di’ face arrest

In a setback to actors and director of Punjabi movie 'Taur Mittran Di', Moonak sub-divisional judicial magistrate Harsimranjit Singh on Tuesday evening issued non-bailable arrest warrants against them. The court had earlier issued bailable warrants against them, with direction to appear before the court on May 28, but they failed to show up.

In a setback to actors and director of Punjabi movie 'Taur Mittran Di', Moonak sub-divisional judicial magistrate Harsimranjit Singh on Tuesday evening issued non-bailable arrest warrants against them.

The court had earlier issued bailable warrants against them, with direction to appear before the court on May 28, but they failed to show up.

The arrest warrants have been issued against actors Jimmy Shergill, Amarinder Gill, Ranvijay Singh, Surveen Chawla, Amita Pathak; director Navniat Singh; Sunil Lulla of Eros International Productions; production head Kailash Jadhav; executive producer John Cherain; associate director Amit Prasher; editor Manish More and story writer Dheeraj Rattan.

On September 11, 2012, Arpinder Singh Sidhu, president of bar association of Moonak, had filed a criminal complaint under sections 499, 500, 120-B of the IPC against Jimmy Shergill, co-producer of film, and others named above, for defaming the lawyer community and their profession in the movie.

The court order stated that except Amarinder and Surveen, other accused intentionally didn’t receive the bailable warrants though sent to their accurate addresses.

“In these circumstances, it transpires that accused are intentionally avoiding their service. Through, in order to speed up their summoning process, procure their presence, let the accused be summoned through non-bailable arrest warrants for July 7,” said the order.
