Students in a majority of the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) affiliated schools usually have to take tests throughout the week under the CCE so as to assess the student's grasp of the lesson taught during the previous week.

Marks obtained in these tests are counted as one of the parameters to grade students periodically during the year.

Expressing concern over reports about schools burdening students by wrongly 'interpreting' CCE provisions, Sibal told Hindustan Times that he was seized of the issue and an awareness drive was being launched to update teachers about implementation of the CCE in the right perspective.

"The CCE helps in improving the student's performance by identifying his or her learning difficulties at regular intervals - right from the beginning of the academic session - and employing suitable remedial measures for enhancing their learning performance," the minister said.

Sibal said the students' burden of carrying bags loaded with text books would be a thing of the past very soon as work on providing Akash tablets was being undertaken by the department. "All books will be downloaded in the tablet," he said.
