As per the Met department, the month of May will end on a cooler note—4-5 notches below the temperature it began with.

Saturday started on a scorching note and weather became pleasant as the day progressed. By the evening, thundershowers drenched most parts of the tricity.

The maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 41.2 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 26.9 degrees Celsius.

Director, meteorological department, Surender Paul, said, “For the next two days, the weather will remain like this only. There is a possibility of rain and thunderstorm for the next 48 hours and the mercury will dip by 4-5 notches.”

The flip side

The thunderstorm uprooted trees and snapped power in many areas across Chandigarh.

In SAS Nagar, high velocity winds snapped power lines and the city plunged into darkness. Traffic was disrupted at many places due to uprooting of trees and severing of branches.
