In a national survey conducted by the Urban Development (UD) ministry, Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu announced Chandigarh as the second cleanest city. Mysuru was at the top position.
The cities were ranked on their performance on each of the components of SBM -- solid waste management, construction of individual, community and public toilets and sanitation strategies and behaviour change communication.

Naidu, on Monday tweeted names of the first ten clean cities selected according to merit:

{{/usCountry}}In a similar survey that was conducted a few months ago, Chandigarh had been on the 21st position, followed by Jalandhar at 28 while Hoshiarpur had been declared as the dirtiest.

It is also pertinent to mention here that on Jan 28, Urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu had released a list of first 20 cities to be developed as smart cities. Chandigarh had missed the bus by 0.27% margin while Ludhiana had secured 19th position.

Nodal officer for smart city Danish Ashraf had said the administration would resend its nomination for inclusion in the smart city project to the Centre. The UT will present its case again and will also seek technical assistance from France.
