Chandigarh police trace BMW car that ran over Himachal CM’s relative

Chandigarh Police finally recovered the BMW which allegedly ran over Akash Sen (28) who had succumbed to his injuries at the PGIMER on February 10, a day after he was run over by the BMW car.The care was recovered from Gobindgarh on Monday.

Chandigarh Police on Monday recovered the BMW used in the crime from Gobindgarh. The car (CH 01 AP 1133) is registered in the name of the main accused Balraj Singh Randhawa.

“A Gobindgarh police patrolling team found the car abandoned in the fields adjacent to the road in Bamba Kanda, Mandi Gobindgarh. It was taken under their custody. They informed us and after completing necessary paperwork, we brought the car in Chandigarh on Monday,” said Ram Gopal, deputy superintendent of police (Central).

The number plate was missing from the car that does not have any tell-tale marks of the accident. The keys were found inside the locked vehicle. The Gobindgarh police prepared a report on the condition of the car when they took it their custody.

“Experts will be put to work to tell us whether the vehicle used in the crime was dented or painted post-accident,” the DSP added.

Police claimed that they are getting leads from co-accused Harmehtab Singh Rarewala alias Farid. A senior cop had claimed to have travelled to nine cities in Punjab, including Ludhiana and Fazilka with Harmehtab, to trace Balraj.

Head injury lead to death

A doctor at PGIMER where the post-mortem of Sen was conducted said, “Head injury was the main cause of death. Sen was unconscious with severe head (brain) injuries when he was brought to the PGIMER. He did not have any brain activity.”

The doctor added Sen was too sick to be evaluated further.
