Chandigarh: Stepfather held for raping 13-yr-old over four months

A case of rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered at the Manimajra police station.

 A 45-year-old Manimajra man was arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter for over four months after her mother approached the Chandigarh Childline 1098 on Tuesday.  The accused is a resident of Govindpura in Manimajra and works in a furniture shop in the area.

The victim, who is a Class-7 student, had confided in her mother that the accused had been sexually exploiting her.   “The victim said the accused used to call her to the godown where he works and raped her for four months. The accused had been married to her mother,” said childline director Col Ravi Bedi. 

After getting the complaint, the childline team approached the police and filed an FIR. The accused was immediately arrested. The victim’s medical examination was conducted at the Manimajra civil hospital, following which her statement was recorded before the magistrate and the girl was handed over to her mother.
