Aam Aadmi party (AAP) Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chottepur on Friday strongly condemned Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) decision to dismiss four Panj Pyaras.

Chottepur accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of undermining the authority of Sikhs’ religious institutions. He alleged that SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar was working at the behest of Badal and causing disrespect to Sikh institutions.

Chottepur said five head priests, Panj Pyaras and other Sikh institutions have a special place in Sikh religion.

“The statement by Makkar that Panj Pyaras are SGPC employees is shameful and their dismissal is a disrespect towards the maryada of the Sikh ‘Panth’,” said Chottepur, adding that the AAP would raise voice against such acts.
