He also expressed concern over the "non-existent" police complaints authority in the state, though "the state government claims of having one in place".
Congress leaders Ambika Soni and Pawan Kumar Bansal accompanied Chidambaram while he was hearing grievances of party workers from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh at the Punjab Bhawan here.

Chidambaram was addressing the concern of the Punjab Congress leaders and CLP leader Sunil Jakhar about the cases of police atrocities on Congress workers.
PCC vice-president Ashwani Sekhri raised the issue of the recent custodial death of a Congress worker in Batala. He informed Chidambaram that instead of booking the SHO concerned, the police had tried to falsely implicate another Congress worker in the case.

"The Congress leaders tried to take up the issue with the chief minister, but to no effect. The case quoted by Sekhri is not an isolated one, but just an example," claimed Jakhar.

"Such visits will boost the morale of the party cadres as they will be able to list their grievances to the central ministers as the state government was victimising them," Amarinder said.
