The cold wave intensified across Himachal Pradesh with the higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Kinnaur receiving fresh snowfall and some parts of the state receiving rainfall in the past 24 hours.
While Manali received 15mm rainfall, Bhuntar received 10mm, Kalpa 0.8 mm, Kangra 0.2 mm, Dharamshala 2.4 mm and Gaggal and Palampur 1mm each.
According to the Met, fresh western disturbances had lowered the maximum temperature by 4 to 5 notches, and the weather conditions would remain same till November 12.
Locals and tourists in hill state’s capital, Shimla, also felt the chill with the sky remaining overcast the entire day, and braced for a chilly Diwali celebration.
The maximum temperature at Shimla stood at 14.8°C, two degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.6°C, one degree above normal.
Shimla Meteorological Department director Manmohan Singh said, “A fresh western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation would affect the western Himalayan region until November 12. Thereafter, the weather will remain dry.”
Keylong was the coldest on Monday with a minimum temperature of 2.1°C. The minimum temperature at Kalpa was 2.6°C, Manali 4.6°C, Una 8.4°C, Bhuntar 8.5°C, Solan 9.2°C, Sundernagar 10.3°C, Mandi 11.3°C, Dharamshala 13.2°C and Nahan 14.8°C.
