As feared, three confirmed cases of cholera were reported from Badungar Colony in the city on Friday. Three people had died on Thursday in the colony due to suspected diarrhoea cases.
The health department had taken 13 stool samples for the test of cholera.
"Three samples have been found positive for cholera. We have taken 14 more stool samples for cholera tests. An ambulance has been permanently deployed in the area till further orders. A team of epidemiologists is also camping in the colony," said Dr VS Mohi, civil surgeon, Patiala.
All the cholera-hit patients have been put under special surveillance in Government Rajindra Medical College and Hospital, he said.
In Sanjay Colony, where more than 100 cases of gastroenteritis were reported last week, four patients were found to be suffering from cholera.
Meanwhile, 41 new cases of gastroenteritis were reported from Badungar Colony on Friday. The total number of patients suffering from gastroenteritis in the colony has now reached more than 165.
Patiala deputy commissioner GK Singh and municipal commissioner Gurlavleen Singh Sidhu visited the affected area on Friday. Singh said a medical team was carrying a door-to- door survey of the area to conduct tests of the patients.
Out of 14 samples of water taken from the area following the outbreak of the disease, four were found unfit for consumption.

The deputy commissioner has now directed the civic body commissioner to conduct a survey of all water supply pipelines in the city and submit its report within two days.
Meanwhile, the civic body officials said the water supply through pipes had been completely banned in the affected area. A special team has been set up to supply chlorinated water through tanks in the affected areas.
"We are also conducting a door-to-door survey in the colony to make people aware. Residents have been told to maintain cleanliness conditions, which is the biggest reason behind the spreading of the disease," said Najar Singh, joint commissioner, municipal corporation.
