Taking its voter sensitisation programme to the next level, the Amritsar district administration has directed the cinema owners in the city to flash inspiring messages and slogans to motivate voters to exercise their franchise.

District election officer Ravi Bhagat said that the initiative was a part of various measures being taken by the district administration to motivate voters to exercise their right to vote in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“The initiative is aimed at enhancing the voters’ percentage on the polling day. Cinema owners have been asked to display messages in Punjabi as ‘lalach nu karo inkar, vote pa ke chuno sarkar’ (shun greed, elect a government by casting your vote), ‘Tuhadi vote, tuhadi awaz’ (your vote, your voice), ‘Tuhadi vote hi tuhada bhavikh hai’ (your vote is your future), ‘vote paaona saadi zimmewaari hai’ (it is our responsibility to cast our vote), among others,” he said.

With a view to motivating the first time voters to exercise their voting rights, the district administration has already launched a few novel schemes that include offering 30% discount to the new voters and their kin at various restaurants across the city, besides employing traditional means of spreading awareness about voting rights among the rural youth through ‘bhands’.
