City to have clean sewer lines

Punjab local bodies and medical education and research minister Bhagat Chuni Lal has announced the grant of Rs 50 lakh to the local municipal council while he was addressing a camp here on Sunday.

Punjab local bodies and medical education and research minister Bhagat Chuni Lal has announced the grant of Rs 50 lakh to the local municipal council while he was addressing a camp here on Sunday.

Chuni Lal said: "The grant will be used for purchasing new equipments and machine for sewerage cleaning, a new fire tender and garbage collection rehris."

Congress had been ruing of shortage of equipments and machinery with the local municipal council for a very long time.

The minister said the Punjab government had chalked out a detailed action plan for the urban development. In the first phase, developmental issues of all the cities having corporations would be resolved, thereafter, we would focus on other cities and towns.

He said: "A plan comprising Rs 9,000 crore will be in action very soon and within three years all pending works will be completed."

Answering to the query of malpractices prevalent in Kapurthala municipal council, the minister said the inquiry was under process and whosoever belonging to any class or political party found at fault would not be spared.

Answering to another query of giving rents of flex boards to the owners despite the completion of their allotted periods, minister said: "We have initiated the process of calling fresh tenders to the municipal councils. This will strengthen the revenue of local bodies' exchequers."

The minister also announced the grant of Rs 1 lakh for the management of Sat Narayan Mandir.
