The chief minister claims 80% success, so far, in tacking drug smuggling in the state. Interacting with the media at the local civil hospital on Saturday during a visit to its drug de-addiction centre, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said no matter how influential the drug traders, their time was up.
‘NO FALSE CASE’
He said 600 drug addicts were under treatment in various government hospitals in the state. Asked about delayed campaign against drug menace, he commented: “Der aye durust aye (Better late than never).”
Air-conditioned, prefabricated de-addiction and rehabilitation centres costing Rs 4 crore each were coming up in every district, said the chief minister, denying the allegation that police misused the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act to frame people. “There’s no false case to my knowledge but if any, it would not be tolerated,” he said. The government has formed a high-level committee to keep tabs on the demand and supply of essential commodities, with a view to checking price rise, the chief minister has said.
He hoped that the Punjabis stranded in Iraq would return safely, as the Centre was trying and even he had asked the Indian ambassador in Baghdad for all the help required.
