Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal assured a Sikh delegation from Assam that the Punjab government would extend support for the construction of a cultural complex in legendary Sikh warrior General Chetan Singh’s memory at Guwahati.
The delegation, led by Capt PP Singh (retd), called on the CM here on Wednesday and apprised him that they were constructing a cultural complex in the memory of the legendary warrior, who was sent by Maharaja Ranjit Singh to Guwahati to help the erstwhile ruler of Assam against a group of invaders from Burma. Members of the delegation also sought the Punjab government’s help for the renovation of Guru Nanak High School at Guwahati.
The CM said efforts had been made by his government to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the state by constructing world-class monuments costing Rs 1,000 crore to immortalise the memories great warriors and martyrs.
In this context, he referred to the Virasat-e-Khalsa memorial at Anandpur Sahib, memorials of Vadda and Chhota Ghallughara, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur war memorial at Chappar Chiri, Bhagwan Valmik Tirath Sthal at Amritsar and Guru Ravidass memorial at Khuralgarh in Hoshiarpur.
Apart from these, memorials of Swami Vivekananda at Kapurthala, Baba Jiwan Singh (Bhai Jaita Ji) at Anandpur Sahib, Baba Moti Ram Mehra at Fatehgarh Sahib and Bhai Mati Dass, Bhai Sati Dass and Bhai Dayala at Anandpur Sahib were also at various stages of planning and execution, the CM said.
