The police have registered a case under Section 406 of the IPC for criminal breach of trust on the written complaint of the district manager, Markfed (DMM).

The accused have been identified as Congress councillors Hemraj Garg and Rajneesh Kumar, Pankaj Garg, Prem Kumar, Seema Rani and Kanta Devi.

The accused have been absconding since the registration of the case on September 18.

In a written complaint to senior superintendent of police Surjit Singh, DMM Jagit Singh said Markfed had stored around 6,027 quintals of paddy in the local Garg Food Industries in April. The millers were supposed to deliver 4,038 quintals of rice in lieu of paddy after carrying out custom milling before August 31.

"The matter came into light after rice millers failed to deliver the rice stock before the stipulated time. Repeated visits to mill premises also turned futile as owners had put a lock on the main gate," he said.

The SSP ordered to register a case following the legal assistance report of the district deputy attorney.
