The decision was taken on Friday during a meeting of Congress councillors at the municipal corporation complex.

District Congress president Rajinder Beri said, “The city is crying for basic civic amenities due to the dilly-dally attitude of the municipal corporation authorities. Whenever a protest is carried out by our councillors to highlight issues of broken road, missing street lights and garbage in the city, the civic body comes up with just one answer — shortage of fund.”

“However, the SAD-BJP alliance government in the state has enough funds to spend `17 crore on World Cup Kabaddi. This clearly depicts the apathy of the government towards real issues facing the common man,” he said.

The Congress councillors met to submit a written complaint against the erring officials of the civic body, who first in connivance with colonisers allow them to raise illegally constructed buildings in the city.

“We have submitted a list of illegal constructions being carried out in the city with the MC commissioner. We asked him to carry an investigation as how constructions are being carried out for a long time. The commissioner has assured us of action,” added Raj.

The Congress councillors said instead of razing the building, the MC authorities should initiate a disciplinary action against officials instead of razing the buildings.

MC commissioner Gurpreet Khehra said, “I have received the complaint by the councillors and have initiated an inquiry. I have also written a letter seeking suspension of two employees — Dinesh Joshi and Shyam Sunder — of the town and planning department and action will be taken against the building owners.”
