Led by president of the district unit of the Congress Roop Kaur Bagrian, party workers gathered outside the office of the deputy commissioner and raised slogans against the NDA government at Centre and the SAD-BJP government in the state.

However, the bickering within the Congress also came to the fore during the protest as not even a single halka in-charge of the district joined the protest.

When asked about the differences in the party, Roop Kaur said, "Some of our halka in-charges (Surinder Pal Sibia and Aman Arora) are busy in party activities at some other places, and some of them never come with us."

About the protest, she said, "In the past eight years, the state government has failed to take any strict step to deal with this serious issue."

Congress leaders also submitted a memorandum to Sangrur deputy commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind.
