Local Congress leaders and workers came out on the streets to protest against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA and chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) Virsa Singh Valtoha, who referred to himself as a 'militant' in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday.
The Congress workers, led by Mandeep Singh Manna, a member of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), burnt an effigy of Valtoha at the busy Hall Gate here on Wednesday. They raised slogans against Valtoha and demanded that he should be disqualified from the state assembly for his anti-national stance.
"By referring to his militant past and stating that he was still a militant, Valtoha had not only displayed his anti-national stance but also shown that he had no faith in the Indian Constitution. A militant is an anti-national, hence Valtoha should be disqualified from the assembly", Manna said while addressing the protesters.
Meanwhile, Tejpreet Singh Sandhu, a former Congress leader, who belongs to Bhikiwind which is part of the Khem Karan assembly constituency represented by Valtoha, also castigated Valtoha over this issue. By referring to his militant past, Valtoha, in fact, displayed his threatening presence in the House, he added.
"Such a behaviour, that too in the Vidhan Sabha, is unacceptable and the MLA should be disqualified from the House. It's unfortunate that his mindset still remains the same," said Sandhu in a statement issued here.

{{/usCountry}}Amritsar (rural) District Congress chief Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that at last Valtoha has spoken the truth that he was a terrorist and will remain a terrorist. In a statement, he sought to know the BJP's stand on Valtoha's statement.
"Of late, the BJP is talking about compensation to those who were killed by terrorists in Punjab. Now, what is the party's stand on Valtoha's open acceptance that he is still a militant," he said.
