"He left the meeting as a thief runs after committing crime. What is the reason behind this? The mayor must clarify. He is involved in corruption and this is the reason he was not ready to discuss the budget proposals with councillors," said Jagdish Raj, leader of opposition in the House.

The councillors alleged that the mayor was feeling nervous to come in front of them as he had not made any development in the city in the last one-and-a-half-year tenure of the present civic body.District Congress president (urban) Rajinder Berry alleged that the mayor had violated all the guidelines mentioned in the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976.

"As per the Act, it is mandatory to have a general house meeting every month. But he failed to do it. During his 18-month tenure, only five meetings have been conducted," said Beri.
