This is evident from the fact that garbage can be seen piled up in different corners of the city and dumps have started coming up at different localities, much to the chagrin of the residents, who want the garbage to be lifted as early as possible. The worst-affected areas include localities in and around the walled city and even the posh areas as Ranjit Avenue.

If the scenario continues, the city is likely to have yet another dump -- outside the Town Hall office of the mayor.
The Congress councillors in the city have given an ultimatum of five days to the Amritsar municipal corporation to initiate the lifting of garbage, failing which they have warned of creating a dump outside the mayor's office.

"Fifty tractor-trolleys and support of residents of the city is all we need for this," said Congress councillor Gurinder Singh Rishi while addressing media persons near a dump at Ram Bagh. Rishi charged the SAD and BJP leaders with playing politics over the dump and passing the buck to each other. "If the SAD-BJP leaders are unable to locate a landfill site for the dumping of garbage, the Congress councillors have identified one such site -- outside the office of the Mayor at Town Hall," he said.
