The Congress leaders also demanded to hand over the investigation of drug racket to the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) so that drug traffickers operating from other countries can also be brought to book. They feared that Punjab Police officers might succumb to political pressures due to involvement of party high ups in the drug racket.

Issuing a statement at Moga on Saturday, Punjab Mahila Congress president Malti Thapar, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, MLA Joginder Singh, former minister Darshan Singh Brar and district Congress president Jagdarshan Kaur Dharmkot alleged that that both Sukhbir Badal and Majithia were responsible for spreading drug menace in Punjab. "The akali leaders have been making the youth of Punjab drug addicts for their vested interests. It was a heinous crime against the humanity and particularly the people deputy CM and Majithia had only one priority in life to make money at any cost even if it cost people their lives," Congress leaders added.

Senior Congress leaders said that the huge recovery of synthetic drugs made by the police was mind boggling and show how deep the roots of drug mafia were. They said that Congress party had raised the issue of drug mafia running in Punjab with the blessings of Sukhbir Singh Badal Bikram Singh Majithia.
