Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Gurdeep Sandhu, son-in-law of Congress leader and former Baghapurana legislator Darshan Singh Brar, as accused in a government-job scam.
Picked up from his Manimajra house here on Thursday night, Sandhu, was allegedly in touch with Dinesh Yadav, Agra conduit of mastermind Mithilesh Pandey aka “Guruji” or “Masterji” of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, who sourced the recruitment-examination question papers from a New Delhi press. Yadav is under arrest and Pandey on the run.

Brar said he had disowned his daughter and son-in-law years ago and now had “no clue” what they were up to. In April 2015, Sandhu had reportedly sold question papers to seven candidates for the posts of grade-2 inspector in Punsup (Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation). He had neighbour and fellow realtor Sunil as alleged partner in crime.
Sunil’s wife, Gurpreet, cleared the selection test for Punsup senior assistant with the help of Guruji. The Talwara couple has failed to join the vigilance investigation. Sandhu, a postgraduate in Punjabi and history from Panjab University, Chandigarh, is from Dadu village in Haryana’s Sirsa and married since 2001 to Congress leader Brar’s younger daughter, Jaswinder Kaur.

{{/usCountry}}The criminal network made Rs 15 lakh from each candidate. In three months, the vigilance bureau has arrested 30 accused, of which Sandhu is the second with political connection. On June 28, Malout’s Akali councillor, Sham Lal Daddi, was arrested. Kothe Chet Singhwala’s Akali sarpanch Manjit Singh Bittu and his nephew, Shagan Mann, who are on the run, had allegedly helped customers through January’s selection examination for patwaris.
