Shiromani Akali Dal president and Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal today said that the Supreme Court rap for the CBI in the Mayawati case has revealed how the Congress was "misusing" the central agency as a "tool to fix its rivals and to keep its minority government in power".

In a statement issued in Jalandhar on Saturday, Badal said that the Supreme Court order quashing the disproportionate assets case against BSP leader Mayawati was an "indictment of the central government which was misusing investigative agency as Congress Bureau of Investigation".

He said that his party had been crying hoarse for decades that the CBI should be made a statutorily autonomous body on the pattern of Election Commission of India and that the Union government should not have any control over it.

The deputy CM alleged that the Congress to safeguard its own interests had adopted the 'dossier culture' in which appropriate dossier were created by the CBI whenever a leader from a rival party or even from its allies refused to toe the Congress line.

He asserted that all political parties would have to unitedly force the Congress to give total autonomy to the CBI and seek the intervention of President of India for this important constitutional issue.
