The much-talked about suit — the auction of which was held in Surat of Gujarat and garnered a whopping `1.45 crore — has drawn a lot of flak from opposition parties. However, the “poor man’s suit” that the Congress workers out on auction here fetched only Rs 61,000.

Congress’ Rakesh Kamal was declared the highest bidder. Kamal later wore the suit and said he felt proud to wear the outfit of a poor man.

Raj Kumar Chabbewal, chairman, PPCC’s SC cell, said, “BJP leaders have been blinded by their Lok Sabha victory, and they have forgotten the poor. Instead of turning the dream of the poor people into a reality, the BJP leadership is mocking them by conducting such auctions.”

The party workers present at the venue said the BJP has forgotten its poll promises of countering corruption, unemployment and price rise, but are busy in making Modi a cult figure by building temples in his name and auctioning his suit.
