In a joint investigation by city and government railway police, Rayees (28), a resident of Alawalpur has been arrested for making a hoax call in connection with the Archana Express bomb scare on Tuesday morning.
The caller, who originally hails from Araria district of Bihar, had said that an explosive substance was planted in the Archana Express. The hoax call led to a six hour halt for the train at the Jalandhar Cantonment railway station. In a press conference, police officials said that the accused is of mischievous character due to which he had made a hoax call at 9.13 am on Tuesday and later switched off his phone.
The cops then scanned the call details of the number and reached his house. Police also seized five sim cards and two mobile phones from him. However, police said that the accused has no criminal record and works as a labourer in sugarcane fields.
A case was registered under relevant Sections of the IT Act, and Sections 182 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication), 268 (public nuisance) and 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of IPC.
